Anxiety Treatment: Eight Steps To Beat The Stress
In many cases, anxiety treatment is not a serious disorder that requires medical treatment or therapy from a certified psychologist. Many people experience stress and anxiety without considering it as something that requires professional help due to its common occurrence. Anxiety can lead to health problems such as obesity, alcoholism, heart disease and hypertension if left untreated for too long so it’s best to fight your stressful emotions before they lead you down a bad path.
- Get enough sleep. A solid eight hours of good quality sleep will replenish your energy, reduce irritability and improve concentration.
- Regular exercise enhances the release of brain chemicals called endorphins that make you feel good and promote a restful sleep. Take a brisk walk or exercise to your favourite music.
- Eat a healthy diet and choose complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Eating too many simple carbohydrates such as cakes and biscuits can increase feelings of anxiety.
- Get help. Share how you are feeling with someone you trust. Keeping your feelings bottled up inside can increase feelings of anxiety and depression. Talk about your problems with your family or friends, or seek professional help.
- Learn relaxation techniques Deep breathing exercises, muscle relaxation exercises, yoga, and meditation can help to relieve stress and anxiety. Spending time in nature Being close to nature can reduce stress. Spend time gardening or walking in parks.
- Use aromatherapy Try soaking in a warm bath containing soothing essential oils, such as jasmine or neroli. Aromatherapy uses natural plant extracts to help improve mood, promote restful sleep, and relieve anxiety.
- Drink chamomile tea Drinking a cup of chamomile tea can help promote relaxation and reduce anxiety. The tea contains chemicals that are known as flavonoids, which are thought to work in a similar way to anti-anxiety drugs.
- Manage your time. Set yourself realistic goals for the day. Try to organise your activities so that you do not take on too much. Make sure you allow yourself enough time to get everything done. Use a diary or day planner to keep track of your appointments, and to jot down important tasks.
